Jean Webster and her husband Peter are 'weil kent' faces on the North East of Scotland classical scene, singing solo for local choral societies and in their own recital trio, Vocal Liaisons, with accompanist Ian Gillis. Their repertoire is very varied and includes Opera, Lieder, English song, Music Theatre and Scots song.
Both Jean and Peter were brought up in Dundee and it was from that city's Harris Academy that Jean went to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) to take a three-year teaching and performing diploma. After raising a family she studied further for three years with Raimund Herinx before being invited (some thirty years ago) to become a singing teacher at the School. Jean has also taught voice and performance presentation at Aberdeen University for almost as long.
Memorable pupils include Lisa Milne, with whom Jean worked on a weekly basis before she left for RSAMD and an international singing career.
Peter has now taken early retirement from a career in financial services. He began voice tuition here at NESMS, initially with John Carol Case then externally with Elizabeth Izatt, before returning to the fold with lessons from Raimund Herinx. Peter achieved an LTCL diploma in voice performance in 2005. He has taught singing for several years privately at home preparing school pupils for practical voice examinations, and was invited to join the teaching staff of NESMS in 2012.
