Annual Scholarship Concert

The annual Scholarship Concert has taken place in June at Springfield Church (formerly named Craigiebuckler Church) for many years. This concert provides a platform to highlight those NESMS students holding named full scholarships and provides a wonderful evening of music for friends and family.

Below are reviews of the concerts from the past decade.

The next Scholarship Concert will take place at Springfield Church on  20th June 2025

Keynote Lunches

The popular social highlight of the NESMS calendar is the Annual Keynote Lunch regularly held each November at the Marcliffle Hotel, Pitfodels in Aberdeen. What initially started off as a large scale auction event aimed towards corporate fundraising has been scaled back over the years but still includes a delicious two course Sunday lunch, musical performances from NESMS students or tutors and a Prize raffle draw.

Grade-1-athon

In 2006 we launched the first Grade-1-athon challenge; inviting all local musicians to pick up one new instrument, having only one group lesson, then a 10 week  practice period before sitting a grade 1 exam! This event was in conjunction with Childrens First and was kindly sponsored by AMEC. The group lessons,  grouped per instrument, was held up at the old Summerhill School with local tutors.  We're pleased to say that everyone passed their exam and were presented with certificates and medals, presented by Jennifer Shirreffs of the NESMS Fundraising Committee.  Some students have since carried on with their "new" instrument and advanced up through the grades.

Summer Singing School 2019

In 2019 NESMS launched its first ever Summer Singing School for young students to come for an intensive week of singing lessons and rehearsals with Gillian Jack and Graeme Lauren and music theory sessions with Joseph Long. With songs tracing the history of Musical Theatre, from Scarlatti to Sondheim and Mozart to Menken, the building was filled with solos, duets, trios and ensemble singing all week culminating in a performance for friends and family held in the hall opposite NESMS, within St Mary's Cathedral.
